THREE St Helens Tri athletes made a bid to qualify for Team GB at the weekend.

At the Sleep When You’re Dead Sprint (SWYD) Triathlon on Barry Island in Glamorgan, Mal Balmer finished in a little over 90 minutes in what is a qualifier for the 2020 Edmonton ITU Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships.

Jennifer Pybis put in a star performance to finish in the top 15 senior women and put herself well into contention to take part in the World Championships.

Robert Chesters placed sixth in his division and within 104 percent of first place at the Darley Moor circuit near Ashbourne in Derbyshire to give himself a chance of an ETU Duathlon wildcard spot.

All three now eagerly await the allocation of Team GB places.

Meanwhile, five club members ran the Liverpool Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon at the weekend.

Neil Wallace led the way in 1:50.37, around six minutes ahead of Azzam Taktak.

Diane Taktak finished ahead of Chris Dyson and Karen Kelly, the trio finishing in under 2:20.00.
