ST Helens Sutton A.C’s Jade Smith headed to Lancaster for yet another 5k PB of 19:02 finishing first lady.

Jon-Jo Doherty went to the Yorkshire Mountains to represent Merseyside and came home as first counter for the team at the UK inter-counties Fell Running Championships. While Mark Liptrot (33rd in 1:27.59) and Greg Carns (42nd in 1:30.48) competed at the Moel Eilio race.

Closer to home in Liverpool, Sutton runners competed in the Merseyside County Championships. In the U11 Girls Poppy Ward competed in the 75m, in the U13 Girls Chloe Leigh Mark and Daisy Ward competed in the 800m with Lilly Birkett competed for the first time in the 1200m. Ciara Russell and Sophie Brenna both competing for the first time ran the 75m with Ciara also doing the 150m taking the Bronze. In the U15 Girls Jessica Bairstow and Gemma Bairstow ran the 100m. In the U17 Elizabeth Greenall took the bronze in the 80m Hurdles and 6th in the long jump with Celine Virton competing in the Javelin and discus where she took silver. In the senior women Heather Drillingcourt competed in the 100m, while Jade Smith was crowned Merseyside County Champion in the 1500m.

In the U13 Boys Lewis Dunn competed in the 100m, long jump and shot putt while Joe Colley ran the 200 and 800 metres. Liam Johnson competed in the 100m with Lewis Shaw competing in the long jump and 1500m alongside first time competitor Will Vose. Gabrial Mullen was to be the first of Sutton’s male County Champions in the 800m, he was followed by Michael Dobson in the U15 800m, and by Charlie Roberts who broke an 18-year-old county record in the U17 800m.

In the senior men, Tom Griffiths took silver in the 1500m struggling with a hamstring injury while Will Beesley narrowly missed out on gold while wearing basic trainers in the 400m. Michal Causer was crowned county Champion in the 100m and long jump, putting in a dominating performance as did Matt Crehan in the 3000m.

At the Cheshire Championships Darren Scott had his first run out as a V50 taking silver in the 200m in 23.6 which ranks him number two in the world this year, as well as competing in the 100m and long jump. David Twigg also competed in the 1500m.

Sunday saw the Liverpool Running Bugs host their #NoMoreKnives 5 and kids mile races. Following in his dad’s footsteps Harry Griffiths took the win in the kids race, while Jon-Jo Doherty continued his superb form to win the 5 mile in style.
