THERE were wins for both local Division 1 sides this weekend with Newton Le Willows notching a seven-wicket win over Birkenhead Park and Rainford edging out Wigan by just one wicket in a close affair.

Matthew Parkinson (5 for29) and Sam Guest (4 for 53) bowled Park out for 106 before Peter Barnes (44) and Ben Walkden (32) saw Newton home.

John Dotters (5 for 25) and Andy Davies (4 for 32) did the damage for Rainford as Wigan were bowled out for 141.

Wickets then fell steadily in the reply but a solid 32 from opener Matthew Bailey and 29 from Reece Kelly helped Rainford to a nail-biting one wicket win.

Rainhill lost by 106 runs after Ormskirk had declared on 220 for 3 in the Premier Division and both Sutton and St Helens Town were winless in Division 2.

Sutton made 108 against Spring View due mainly to a 60 run 9th wicket partnership between Lewis Bolton (33) and Ben Scott (32) before losing by 4 wickets.

St Helens Town were beaten by five wickets at Hightown St Marys.
