SAINTS boss Justin Holbrook was pleased with the collective effort from his side in the 38-12 victory over Warrington that propelled them back to the Super League summit after 10 rounds.

They dominated all facets of the game, and had built a solid platform in the first half when they exploited the sin-binning of Mike Cooper to score twice and take a 20-6 interval lead with tries from Mark Percival, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Jonny Lomax.

Although Warrington pegged one back through Daryl Clark, Saints scored three more with Matty Lees rewarded for his chase with a touchdown, Regan Grace waltzing 70 metres for another and Tommy Makinson putting the icing on the cake of what Holbrook said was the best of the year so far.

Holbrook said: “We knew in the build-up how good an opposition we were facing. It was first v second and we were well aware of how big a game it was.

“It was as good as we have played this year – and we had to play well.

“We played really in the first half but in the second half we sort of shut up shop a bit for a period.

“That was dangerous because we know how dangerous Warrington are with the ball and I knew we would have to keep playing.

“I was pleased to see Regan with a length of the field try and for Tommy Mak to score the one in the other corner later.

“We had to keep playing against them because they are such a dangerous side. We did a really good job on keeping their key men relatively quiet tonight.

“I said before the game – whoever wins tonight, it does not decide who wins the comp but who leads after 10 rounds.

“It is important. They were looking forward to challenging us and we were looking forward to playing them.

“I was very happy with the way we played tonight

“It was important game to win tonight against a dangerous side that we were good enough to keep relatively quiet which hasn’t been easy to do this season.

“I was obviously happy with everyone’s game, Regan had a great game, Kevin Naiqama stepped his game up tonight and I thought Jonny Lomax was quality again as was Cootie.

"We had lots of good performers, but I thought collectively we were strong.”
