FIGHTING talk from the Saints camp ahead of what will be a gruelling month in the Betfred Super League!

Head Coach Justin Holbrook is under no illusions that some of the teams we will face including top spot rivals Warrington, will be out to end Saints 100 per cent winning record for 2019.

As you’d expect from Justin, he points out that they are not looking past the next opponents which happen to be the Catalan Dragons away in Perpignan, who themselves will be out to make amends for that embarrassing performance against Wigan last weekend where they failed to score while leaking 42 points.

What Holbrook wants from Danny Richardson>

One man who will have felt this more than others would have been Sam Tomkins, on his first return to the DW Stadium.

Wigan are starting to look like they are gaining some cohesion and confidence as they won their second game in a row, only their third of the season.

No matter what either coach says about upcoming fixtures though, there is always one eye on Good Friday for anybody associated with the Saints or Wigan..and with the improving Warriors this looks set to be a cracker.

Saints vs Hull KR wasn’t a spectacle, however there were positives from the performance.

After numerous late changes due to illness, injury and Zeb Taia and Alex Walmsley on new daddy duties! (Congratulations to both families on the birth of your daughter and son!), Saints gave starts to a number of young guns including James Bentley, Aaron Smith and Jack Welsby, with Smith and Welsby getting over for their first senior tries.

Also adding to the disruption was the early exit of the in-form Theo Fages with a hip injury.

Saints got off to a flying start but then found themselves behind in the match at the break.

The second half performance was far more clinical, eventually running out 36-24 winners.

This will only add to the confidence of the team and the young players, knowing they can step up when required, and during a tough Easter period will no doubt be getting more game time.

So fast forward the Catalans game, it’s then back to the TWS on April 12 for what is undoubtedly the game everybody wants to see…Saints vs Warrington! Two points currently separating the best two sides in the Betfred Super League.

One player Saints will have to get to grips with, is the Wolves marquee signing Aussie Blake Austin.

A lot was said about Austin pre-season and he hasn’t failed to deliver!

A four-try MOM performance in last week’s 63-12 win against a pathetic Hull FC side was just one of the stand-out performances he has shown this season.

But don’t be at all worried for we do of course have our own stars for them to worry about! I just can’t wait for this game.

If like myself, you think Saints will continue to march on with their winning record through these three tough fixtures and beat Catalans, Warrington and Wigan, title sponsors Betfred are offering 9/4!
