DESPITE two defeats early in the season the coach of the new Thatto Heath women’s team Kris O’Neill is full of praise for his largely untried charges.

Thatto lost 46-6 to Orrell St James.

“We kept out set after set of Orrell St James powerful attacks especially in the first half.

“It’s all about baby steps at the minute and I’m sure the girls will come good once we get back some key and injured players.”

The game played at home last Sunday started with a fine defensive duel between the two sides with no side managing to cross the whitewash.

Finally the dam broke with Orrell, featuring some Super League players including Saints’ Chloe Richardson, scoring.

Kia Doyle scored for Heath, converted by Katherine O’Dowd. The final 15 minutes brought a fierce retaliation from OSJ as the Thatto women tired.
