WARRINGTON Town manager Paul Carden hopes his side can provide the town with a much-needed sporting pick-me-up.

After Warrington Wolves’ defeat in the Super League Grand Final, attention now turns to Yellows’ bid to reach the FA Cup first round for only the second time in their history.

They will achieve that if they can beat National League side FC Halifax Town at Cantilever Park on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Carden saw his side lose to Matlock Town in the Evo-Stik Premier Division on Saturday – bringing to an end a nine-game unbeaten league run – to complete a miserable sporting Saturday for the town’s two biggest teams.

However, he now wants to give Warrington something to smile about this weekend.

“It wasn’t a good weekend for the town. We lost our unbeaten run and the rugby lads lost in the final,” he said.

“It will be nice if we can give people something to have a drink and a celebration about this weekend.

“Slowly but surely, we’re getting a few numbers coming through. People are coming and they are enjoying what they are seeing.

“It’s always nice to see after all the work the chairman has put in over the years and what the players have done so far this year.

“People are starting to vote with their feet if you like and they are coming through the doors.

“That’s always a good thing and it’s something we want to keep improving on.”

Fans can pay on the gate at Cantilever Park on Saturday, with tickets costing £10 for adults, £6 for concessions and £2 for juniors.
