JONNY Lomax is among the quartet of Saints players who have gone into camp with England preparing for a three-match Test series against New Zealand.

The Saints stand-off missed last night’s game against France, after suffering a compound finger dislocation in the semi-final defeat by Warrington, but will be fit and ready for the clashes with a Kiwi outfit who come to England buoyed by last weekend’s win over Australia.

And he will be looking to cap what has been a fine season individually, recognised with a Dream Team place, with strong performance on the international stage.

That may give some consolation to the Saints quartet, who were top dogs for most of the season, but who fell short in both semi finals.

Semi-final results aside, Lomax can be proud of a year in which he returned from the World Cup in the off season with many questioning where he would play after the arrival of Ben Barba had dislodged him from full back.

With a four halves, each with their merits, Lomax showed a stubborn determination not to simply secure the shirt - but to excel in it after feeling the switch to number one in 2013 was premature.

Lomax explained: “I played all my rugby as a junior in the halves and I am probably stubborn in a nice way.

“I am determined to prove people wrong, I feel as though I was moved too early when I was younger in my career.

“Then went to full back where I was unfortunate with injury, but hopefully that can be behind me now.

“I was constantly being told I couldn’t do this but I suppose I wanted to prove people wrong.

“I hope I can continue to do that going forward in my career - hopefully that can give me a bit of stability going forward, knowing where I will potentially play next season.”

The signing of Lachlan Coote to replace Ben Barba at full back gives a degree of assurance that Lomax will not be switching again.

“I will look to build on that again because there was a bit a grey area coming into the season for me, it was something that I wanted to do, make that position my own and hopefully I have done that,” he said.
