Warrington Town 0 Matlock Town 1

YELLOWS’ seven-match winning league run was ended on Saturday, with their proud clean sheet record being brought to an end in the process.

Craig King’s first-half winner for Matlock at Cantilever Park was the first goal Tony McMillan had conceded in the league in over 15 hours of football.

Both sides struggled with the wind early on as Yellows looked for the victory that may have sent them back to the top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

However, it was the visitors who got the opener when David Raven scuffed his clearance from Mark Marshall’s shot, allowing King to sweep home.

Town came desperately close to a quick response through top scorer Tony Gray, who beat the keeper with a curling effort only to see it come back off the post.

Paul Carden’s side stepped up their search for an equaliser after the interval, with Gray volleying over the bar before Ben Garrity’s clipped effort was cleared off the line.

Matlock were a threat on the break, though, and Marcus Marshall sprinted clear looking to double their lead but McMillan smothered his effort.

Substitute Bohan Dixon then sent Jack Mackreth into the box, but he slashed his cross-cum-shot wildly wide when well-placed.

Yellows huffed and puffed, but they could not keep their unbeaten run going.

Warrington Town: McMillan, Duggan (Reid), Whittle, Garrity, Roberts, Raven, Mackreth, Evans, Gray, Amis (Dixon), Vassallo (Kirby). Subs not used: George, Hughes.

Meanwhile, Yellows' home game against Stafford Rangers – scheduled for tomorrow evening – has been postponed.

Town requested a rearrangement to give them as much time as possible to prepare for Saturday's FA Cup fourth qualifying round clash with FC Halifax Town.

No new date for the fixture has been agreed.
