This weekend saw St. Helens Sutton A.C. compete all over the North West in what was perfect running condition compared to those racing out in the stormy weather at the Chicago Marathon.

In Rochdale at the Williams BMW Rochdale 10k Tom Griffiths continued to show his impressive form by dominating the field winning the race in a fantastic time 31:38, nearly a full minute and a half ahead of second place.

Closer to home at the 2018 running of the Rainford 10k several Sutton athletes competed over the new course for this year which took in several trail section along the Linear Park. First St. Helens Sutton runner home was John Appleton with 45:13, followed by Julia Shuker who finished inside the top 10 women with a time of 49:52. Pam Appleton then joined her husband on the other side of the finishing line running 55:43 and rounding out the team of four was Jane Ashcroft in 58 minutes dead.

Around the corner a couple other Sutton A.C. runners took on the Kirkby Milers Safari 10 mile at Knowsley, with always comfortable Jade Smith being first Sutton runner home in 1:16.22 as she rounded out her biggest mileage week yet with what she said was “an easy run through the Safari park with plenty of friends”.

Gemma Aden was next back for Sutton running a great time of 1:37.43, and Janet Holmes was the only other Sutton runner to get her hands on the place in the sell-out 10 mile race, running 1:40.38.

And up in Preston, Leon Hill showed his continued improvement running a fantastic new PB for 10k running 40:25.
