Dan Houghton’s pace (3 for 20) reduced them to 48 for 4 and they never recovered. John Dotters (5 for 37) then took charge as Formby were dismissed for 116.

The Rainford reply proceeded steadily with skipper David Snellgrove (28) and Matty White (30) ensuring that the target was reached with only a few anxious moments.

The 2nd X1 were overpowered at Old Xaverians where the hosts posted 229-6 declared, before replying with a creditable 184. Mark Farrar top scored with 72 and Andy Pollitt (32) and Dan Harrison (31) chipped in.

The youthful 3rd X1 recorded another excellent victory in completing a weekend double over Formby.
