ON Saturday Prescot played their first home match of the season, against Merseyside Commonwealth.
Prescot bowled first, restricting the opposition to 156/9 in 42 overs.
Things started slowly for both sides.
The introduction of Adam Edwards into the attack saw a couple of quick wickets fall.
Dean Fairclough bowled economically, taking 4 wickets in the process.
The number 8 scored a flurry of boundaries on his way to a well-made 44.
A big total loomed, but the death bowling was impressive.
Other bowlers to take wickets were Sam Edkins with 2 and Nathan Dagnall with 1. Again a few missed catches cost us.
Tim Groom wound back the clock, taking four catches (including a couple of sharp catches at slip).
The chase didn’t start well for Prescot as both openers were back in the sheds early.
Phil Kirk steadied the ship, as he is well accustomed to, making 21. However, in a moment of madness, he ran himself out.
Adam De Gray Birch strode out to the crease with confidence, blasting 29 off 28 before running past one from the spinner.
Prescot never recovered and fell behind the rate.
Wickets fell at regular intervals with Prescot being bowled out for 109 in 38.2 overs.
The match was played in excellent spirit and ended with both sides eagerly awaiting a re-match the next day for the Sandhurst Shield match.
MOM- Dean Fairclough- 10 overs 4/24.
