BILLINGE crashed out of the JB Parker Challenge Cup, losing 3-1 to Ashton Town in the quarter finals on Saturday.

The Storks dominated the early proceedings and went ahead after 15 minutes when Liam Platt scored from a tight angle but John Edgerton, Jamie McCartney and Alex Noonan responded.

Moments later Ryan Platt hit the side netting but the home side couldn’t keep up the momentum and went into the break 2-1 down as John Edgerton, from a disputed free-kick, and a Jamie McCartney thunderbolt gave Town the advantage.

The second-half saw Billinge go with four up front but they couldn’t break down a resolute Ashton Town and it was the visitors that increased their lead as Alex Noonan scored late on.

On Saturday Billinge are in Guardian Cup action when Penlake are the visitors to Barrows Farm.
