NEWTON le Willows Angling Association's first match of 2018 was won with a catch of carp and chub.

Eddie McLorie left fellow competitors in the disabled and over 60s weekly match behind with his 6lbs 8ozs 0drms haul caught using pole and worm on peg seven of 14 at Cow Hay Dam.

Eddie Marcroft, of Golborne Tackle & Bait, was second from peg one with more than 80 small roach and rudd for 4-15-0.

Aintree's Jeff Stirrat used pole and pinkie from peg four to finish third with 4-9-0.

Jimmy Corkish, of St Helens, used the same method from peg six to land roach and skimmers totalling 3-4-0 with pole and pinkie.

Next match is this Sunday, an open sweep on Sankey Canal's upper pound. Draw will be at 10am at the swing bridge, with fishing from 11am to 3pm.
