MARTIN Murray will be backed by a strong St Helens contingent when tops the bill in Liverpool on Saturday night when he takes on Gabriel Rosado.

The Barmy Army, who have followed the Fingerpost fighter to Germany, Argentina and Monaco, have a short trip this time as they seek to lift Murray in a crucial make-or-break fight that has already been billed as “a war”.

Murray has dropped back down to middleweight for this showdown with the tough Philadephian Rosado at the Echo Arena.

The 34-year-old still holds ambitions of finally winning a world title after four failed attempts at middle and super-middleweight.

But he needs to win on Saturday night to keep the door open on fulfilling his burning desire.

Murray said: “I know that I still have a World title in me.

“Rosado is a quality fighter and I don’t think his record does him justice.

“He’ll go anywhere and fight anybody and he’s been in with all the top guys. He’s tough and comes to fight, and that’s my style too, so that’s why I am excited about it and the fans are too because there’s no way that our styles won’t gel.

"It’s going to be a war.”

Like Murray, the 31-year-old Rosado has also lost his world title challenges to date – being stopped by Gennady Golovkin and losing to Peter Quillin.

Murray had stepped up to super-middleweight after his battling 11th round defeat by Golovkin, but after harshly losing his title challenge to Arthur Abraham in Germany and then being beaten in the high profile ‘eliminator’ against George Groves he has dropped back down to 160lbs.

Murray still sees opportunities in this division, still dominated by Golovkin, but knows what he needs to do on Saturday night.

“People have always written me off. I’m flying in the gym and I believe I am a level above him and it will tell on the night,” he said.
