Daten 0 Billinge 2

BILLINGE stayed in touch with Cheshire League One leaders Warrington Town Reserves with victory at Daten on Saturday to keep their promotion challenge alive.

After a goalless first half and a missed penalty from Liam Platt, goals from Ryan Sephton and Steve Wolhurter meant they made the short trip home with the points.

The opening period was one in which defences were very much on top, but the visitors had their big chance 10 minutes after the break.

Wolhurter was brought down in the area and Liam Platt stepped up to take the spot-kick, but he sent his effort wide.

Just minutes later, however, a good lay-off from Jon Redmond found Sephton and he stayed calm to open Billinge's account.

The visitors maintained their pressure on the Daten goal and doubled their lead with the final whistle approaching.

When Steve Taylor's free kick was blocked by the wall, the ball fell to Wolhurter and he smashed an effort into the top corner.

The result means Billinge are seven points behind the league leaders, but have two crucial games in hand.

Their next game comes on Wednesday when they host bottom side Grappenhall Sports, kick off 6.30pm.
