Lloyds Bank users have reported problems with their accounts this morning (Tuesday, August 18).

Users were having issues with the banking app and when logging in.

Problems started at around 11am, according to Downdetector, with users complaining they were struggling to use the app and online banking.

These issues were recorded across the UK, including in London, Birmingham, and Leeds.

Of the problems reported, 70% relate to the app while 13% relate to login.

A further 10% relate to online banking for Lloyds Bank customers.

One user said on Downdetector: "Trying to book flights online but Lloyds site has crashed again!"

On X, another complained: "Lloyds Bank can’t go a week without their app / online banking going offline."

Someone else said on X: "@LloydsBank Just done the switch from Halifax app to Lloyds app and guess what….i can’t access either now 🤷🏻‍♂️😡".

Lloyds responds to online banking issues

Lloyds is aware of the issues, with a notice on its app saying: "Sorry, we're having a few technical problems.

"Logging in again may fix the issue, but if this doesn't help, please try again later."

The app also asks for customer feedback so the bank can "identify and fix the issue."

Halifax and Bank of Scotland also experiencing issues

Halifax and Bank of Scotland have also had issues this morning, according to Downdetector.

Users have reported issues with the app and login.

What is Downdetector?

Downdetector is an online website that allows users of popular services including X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, Virgin Media and more to report if they are having trouble with the services.

The site only reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day.

Describing itself on its website, Downdetector is “where people go when services don’t work.”

The website monitors disruptions to various key services including the internet, web hosting platforms, banks, social media and more.

You can see the full methodology and learn more about how Downdetector collects status information and detects problems via its website.

In short, users can get involved by submitting any issue reports on the platform.

Problem indicators are also collected from social media and other factors on the web, Downdetector explained.

These reports are then validated and analysed in real-time.

An incident is then detected if the number of reports is significantly higher than the typical average for that particular service.

When a user goes to investigate the issue, they can see what the most reported problems are currently and check if their areas are in one of the outage hotspots.

Lloyds Bank has since confirmed to Newsquest that the app is back up and running as it should be.
