A hugely popular TV series is once again going to be able to be streamed for free after finding a new home.
ITV has announced that all five seasons of the popular period drama Poldark will arrive on its streaming platform ITVX next month.
The series, which originally aired on the BBC between 2015 and 2019, has previously been available on paid platforms such as Netflix and Disney+.
BBC series Poldark to be available on ITVX from September
From Thursday, September 10, viewers will be able to watch the full Poldark series on ITVX.
Poldark, based on the novels by Winston Graham, follows British Army veteran Ross Poldark, played by Aidan Turner, as he returns to Cornwall after fighting in the American War of Independence.
He finds his father dead, his estate in ruins, and his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth, played by Heida Reed, engaged to his cousin.
With the help of his new maid Demelza, portrayed by Eleanor Tomlinson, he works to rebuild his life and reopen his family’s copper mine, Wheal Leisure.
The move to ITVX follows its recent 10th anniversary, which was marked by the BBC with a special broadcast of the first episode and a 20-minute interview with screenwriter Debbie Horsfield.
Ms Horsfield is also behind The Forsytes, a new adaptation of John Galsworthy’s The Forsyte Saga, which reunites her with Tomlinson.
She told Radio Times magazine: "Initially, I was nervous about taking on someone else’s characters, but I quickly realised I had to imagine they were my characters, to get inside their heads and understand what made them tick.
"So I did that and Poldark seemed to go OK."
