YOUR correspondent Barbara (Opinion: Sept 24 What a Mess) is wrong to blame the Government for the changes in lockdown policy.

Throughout the pandemic the Government has ‘followed the science’ and it is the advice of the scientists which has determined policy. Whether that advice should have been more vigorously challenged is a matter for debate.

Secondly, the rules regarding who can or cannot visit have been drawn up by well heeled upper class civil servants who in all probability can hire nannies to look after their children unlike ordinary folk.

Thirdly, many young people are ignoring the rules and common sense by holding raves and other mass gatherings. Fourthly politicians have made stupid comments such as having an ‘oven ready’ system of track and trace that did not exist while Keir Starmer’s demand for an apology was going to stop the virus in its tracks wasn’t it?

Barbara should realise that we are the equivalent of Hillary Clinton’s ‘unmentionables’ irrelevant to the elite’s exercise of power.
