REGARDING the letter from the gentleman who was unhappy about the amount of stores who are refusing to take cash during the pandemic.

Believe it or not there is still a huge proportion of the ageing population who do not have a mobile phone or shop online, or even have a computer.

If you are nearly 90, were paid cash weekly when you worked, and saved for your utilities in a tin cash box, it can be a huge leap to make the transition from cash to card.

I know a few older people (and many younger ones) who have ended up overdrawn because it’s easy to lose track of your spending.

You have to fight or even pay extra in some cases for a paper bank statement or utility bill.
It’s scary just how marginalised elderly people can end up.

If you’re lucky you will live to be old yourself one day and even luckier to retain all your faculties. Maybe your children or grandchildren will buy you a PC, teach you how to use it and pay your internet bills for you.
