It’s been revealed that our government has resumed trade talks with the USA deep in the midst of a global pandemic.
The coronavirus has shown how vulnerable we are as individuals and a nation. A trade deal on Trump’s terms would pose a major threat.
It will weaken public services like the NHS and drive up medicine prices and lower animal welfare and environmental standards, increasing risk of future transmission of viruses from animals to humans.
And it will tie the hands of the UK government when they need to protect jobs and have freedom to deliver a green recovery.
We can’t just keep going with business as usual. We need trade that puts people and planet first.
