I JUST wanted you to let the people of St Helens know the danger of parking on the Sports Direct car park even though the store is closed.

The cameras are set to zero minutes and anyone who parks there is sent a fine letter of £100.

As I have been self isolating I have only left my house on two occasions both times to pick up provisions for my family at the Iceland store in the town centre.

I parked at the rear of Sports Direct close to Iceland, on the first occasion I was parked for 16 minutes, and the second occasion for 13 minutes.

I was unaware that the parking operator G24 would be charging people during this current crisis.

I appealed the charges and the appeal was rejected even though I had explained my reasons for parking there for the short time.

I then applied to an independent appeal but the parking charge was upheld.

I have had to pay 2 x £60 because if the payments were not made within 14 days I would have had to pay 2 x £100. (This is for 29 mins parking).

I hope that none of our NHS staff after completing a long shift decide to park on an empty car park to pick up essential provisions and end up with £100 fine. It is unacceptable.
