I, ALONG with most residents of St Helens, welcome the news that the eyesore at Carr Mill could finally be demolished and the surrounding area developed for housing.
If the proposed development is seen to be a success then the planning department now has a good chance to make safety and road layout a priority and not consider the financial gain by the developers whose main aim is more houses and more profit.
With the ever increasing number of cars per household I consider the time has come, or will eventually come when we will be forced to consider road widths a priority, which will then free up our pavements once again for pedestrian use only and not for car parking.
It is interesting to note that in Japan you cannot purchase a car unless you have the space to accommodate it.
