I HAVE forwarded these comments to BXB Cowley Hill Ltd following their recent public consultation over their proposal to regenerate redundant land at Cowley Hill Works.

Could BXB Cowley Hill Ltd please confirm what effect the proposed development at Cowley Hill Works will have on the local drainage system?

I refer in particular to the stream passing alongside Washway Lane and exiting at Haresfinch Rd/College St.
Over the last five years the road at Haresfinch/College St regularly floods after moderate rainfall and at Washway Lane after a heavy storm.

I understand that systems of underground overflow storage tanks were installed nearby to these potential flood areas but haven’t proved successful.

It is my view that a large development, such as the one being proposed, close to these existing flood areas, will substantially increase the risk of more frequent flooding.

I also note, from the proposed development plan that the railway bridge and disused railway line situated in Haresfinch Rd, are to be retained!

Surely the time has come to demolish both the bridge and disused railway line so that a potential accident black spot can be removed. The road and footpath passing under the bridge are very narrow and are set at a very acute angle for the large vehicles having to navigate this route.

The construction of the bridge, railway and road must date back to Victorian times and weren’t constructed for the amount and size of traffic using the roadway today, or for the potential greater use the road will have if the proposed development takes place.
