THE building site at the junction of Rivington Road and Knowsley Road is apparently erecting more than 70 dwellings on an area the size of a postage stamp.
The original planning permission for this site was for an old people’s home.
In an area that is already swamped with traffic congestion, where are the parking spaces going to be for the cars of these new residents?
Assuming a minimum of one car per dwelling, that’s another 70 cars that will need parking in an area that already cannot cope, as anyone who drives down Rivington Road will testify.
I’ve written many times on the subject of dangerous and congested parking in the Rivington Road area to the council leader but never had an answer.
Driving along Rivington Road and many other roads in the town is a game of ‘chicken’ with oncoming traffic as there isn’t room for the two way flow of traffic as residents continue to own cars that they have nowhere to store off road.
Kiln Lane and Marsden Avenue are also becoming dangerous to drive down and the buses can hardly fit between inconsiderately parked cars.
