IN response to the editor’s column (Star, June 7), I agree with the analysis.
But for small businesses to set up in the town centre something will have to change regarding the level of rents.
You can’t start up a business with a millstone hanging round your neck.
We need some help from government with start up loans, help from the Chamber of Commerce to help people with their in initial start-ups, and help from the council to offer affordable rents wherever possible to give the new businesses a chance to get off the ground.
Who would want to start a business with a £15,000 a year rent bill hanging over them before they even open the door!
