A MEDICAL training provider is offering free first aid training for football and rugby teams in the town.

The launch of the programme, by St Helens-based North West Medical Solutions, follows the devastating events of the Euro 2020 game on Saturday which saw Danish footballer Christian Eriksen suffer a cardiac arrest on the pitch.

The 29-year-old midfielder collapsed just before half time with the medical team performing lifesaving CPR before he was taken to hospital.

Christian is doing “fine under the circumstances” and has tweeted a photo of himself from his hospital bed today, Tuesday, but the incident highlighted the need for basic CPR and defibrillator training for sports teams and their coaches.

St Helens Star:

Adam Wager, director of North West Medical Solutions on Waterside Court in St Helens, and his team are offering a free one-hour training session for rugby and football teams in St Helens.

Adam said: “We want to highlight the importance of early CPR and early defibrillation when time matters.

“We’re asking football and rugby teams to get in touch to book a free session at their training ground, or our education centre if they prefer, and we are hoping to open it up to other sports team including cricket and hockey in the near future.

“In the light of recent events, we feel able to do something to help and offer training for people should they find themselves in a similar situation.”
