KIND-HEARTED residents in St Helens have lifted the spirits of their neighbours during the COVID-19 pandemic, coming together to show true community spirit.

And now that lockdown restrictions are easing and some of the postponed sporting spectaculars can take place, they have decorated Tarvin Close in Sutton Manor ready for Euro 2020.

St Helens Star:

When government guidelines told the country to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives, people living on Tarvin Close held virtual quiz nights and bingo evenings from their homes and gardens, raising money for charity.

Now, they have hung bunting, flags and banners supporting the teams in the delayed football championships which started on Friday night.

Helen Grounds, who lives in the close and has been shielding during the pandemic, said: “The atmosphere in this close is fantastic.

“We all look after each other and as one of the people who has had to shield over the past 15 months, I have been well looked after by my amazing neighbours.

“I am so proud of our little close, especially now it everyone is supporting the Euro football extravaganza!
