PAUL Wellens gets ready to take his Saints teammate Jon Wilkin for a ride.

But this time it is not a case of the skipper playing a dressing room joke on the back rower.

Instead Wello is at the wheel of an Eddie Stobart wagon featuring a trailer that is emblazoned with the giant image of a try-scoring Wilkin.

Six of the trailers featuring the St Helens Star columnist are being created as part of the haulage firm’s sponsorship deal with Super League.

Full back Wellens jumped into the cab during the launch at Old Trafford.

In total 100 trailers with Super League livery will be driven on haulage missions across the country.

The three-year sponsorship deal has stirred up plenty of debate in rugby league circles because it does not involve Runcorn-based Stobart paying a fee for naming rights of the competition.

The Rugby Football League instead went with a deal that they hope will give the sport greater exposure.

The logistics company has thousands of ‘Eddie Stobart spotters’ who look out for names of the famous wagons that were christened by drivers.

And so the Star want to hear from Saints supporters about places across the length and breadth of the UK where the Wilkin wagons have been spotted.
