LOCAL historian Kevin Finney writes: “It’s very interesting how when a photo is in Coffey Time, that so much extra info follows on.
“I know you have had quite a few ‘street’ locations and people have fed you info on shops they knew. When I contacted you a few weeks ago I said people should look upwards to see the ‘old shops’ etc, especially when walking through town.
“I like to try and place old shops etc when I am walking around town.
“Here are some: Duke Street – Warings tv shop, Westfield Street – Eversons cafe, Ormskirk St/Baldwin St – Rothery radio. Bickerstaffe St – Oxleys. Church St locality – Edinburgh Cafe / Fleece Hotel / Dewars, Redmans – Martins Bank – Freeman Hardy and Willis, Cotham St – Argons – Gas showrooms, Liverpool Rd – Old Tyrers shop before its new location, British Cafe where new post office is now.
"Opposite Parish Church – Old row of shops including furniture shop, hairdressers etc.
“End of Church St near Raven – Newsagents / old Salvation Army hostel where you could pop in for a meal. Army and Navy stores.
“Even all round the old market hall there were many shops.”
