"Muy bien gracias!" (Very well thank you!) was the phrase of the week at Corpus Christi Primary School as teachers and pupils immersed themselves in Spanish culture.

The week had been dedicated to this sunny land as a way of saying thank you and goodbye to native Spanish teacher Cori Amat.

She has been teaching the children at the Rainford school Spanish since last September, and teachers thought this week of Spanish festivities would be an ideal way of putting the lessons into context.

"It has been a really good week," said one eleven year old student, "We have made masks for the fiestas and today we can try some Spanish food."

Cori's husband and chefs from La Tasca, a popular tapas restaurant in Liverpool, came over for the day and cooked an array of popular Spanish cuisine.

Fresh bread dipped in oils and herbs, chorizo sausages, Spanish omelette and a giant paella were just some of the dishes on the menu.

"We got to help make the food," said one student, "It was really good fun, we helped make those fruity cocktails!"

Cori will be sad to say goodbye to the school, which really welcomed her.

"I have enjoyed working here, and seeing how well the children have developed," she says, "I think this week will be a great learning curve for them, as they can ask for Spanish things in Spanish and everything they have learnt they can put into context."

The week ended with a huge Spanish fiesta, where the children could dress up in the outfits they had made and take part in a real Spanish festival.
