HAYDOCK picked up their first win of the season with a 50 run victory at Merseyside Commonwealth Conference. Haydock batted first on a warm and sunny day, and were in trouble early doors.

The loss of Craig Gardiner and Anselm Koning to successive deliveries plunged Haydock into trouble.

It was left to two battling innings from Ken Brookhouse (39) and Andy Martin (36) to give Haydock a defendable total of 139 all out after 50 overs.

Taking the field, Haydock fancied their chances on a pitch that wasn't short of the odd demon or two.

Two inspired pieces of fielding first from Koning with a smart run out and second from Adam Pennington with a stunning one handed over the head catch set Haydock off and running, and they didn't let up from then on in.

Pick of the bowlers was without doubt Andy Martin with a great return of 5-12 off 6.2 overs.

Gareth Bourhill stepped in with 3-27 and Adam Pennington's 1-26 was enough to dismiss the home side for 89.

This was a good all round bowling performance from Haydock who never let up on the hosts until the job was done.

It is now important that Haydock kick on from this performance and get their second win of the season at home to Whitefield.
