Sutton Old boy Phil Leech sponsored the clash between newly promoted Parkfield (Wallasey) at Sutton on Saturday as the home side looked to build on the good performance of the week before.
Alas, things could not have been more different as a lack lustre 1st XI took the field and allowed Parkfield to get away to a more than deserved 211 for 7 declared.
The difference of the day being that Parkfield professional Nafees received good support from his team-mates in top scoring with 84.
Only Wearden bowling consistently for the home team returned 2 for 38 in 10 overs to emerge with any credit.
The target however, looked anything but out of sight, though in reply as sorry Sutton could only muster 167 all out. Tamhane with a superb 115 not out and Mike Rimmer 40 the only people to really trouble the scorers with the rest of the scorecard resembling a binary computer printout.
A day to forget and move onward. Sutton will need to crank up a few gears for the visit of league leaders Wavertree next week.
The 2nd XI had differing fortunes on the visit to Bromborough recording a crushing 98 run victory. Batting first, the class of the developing Les Yates was in evidence again knocking a tremendous 88.
Not to be outdone Yates was ably assisted by newcomer Mark Sephton who has demonstrated his ability to consistently score runs as he ran up 80 including a huge six.
Bromborough were never in with a hope in their reply with Ikin and Rimmer on top form to claim 3 wickets a piece, the 2nd XI are showing the fighting qualities that need to be echoed in the top flight.
