POLICE have charged a 27-year-old man with murder following the discovery of a body inside a tent pitched on wasteland.
Officers were alerted after a member of the public found the body of Graham Jackson, 26, in an area known as the 'Flash' off Southport Street, Parr, at about 1pm on Sunday, Aug 29.
A police spokeswoman confirmed yesterday that Barry John Winstanley, of Penkford Street, Newton-le-Willows, has been charged with murder. He was due to appear at St Helens Magistrates' Court yesterday morning.
It is believed Mr Jackson, understood to be from the Parr area, died from head injuries.
Police believe Mr Jackson had used the tent before in the area and it was not a case of him camping out for just the one night.
Crime scene investigators scoured the areas for clues on Sunday while detectives carried out house-to-house inquiries.
