A MAN wanted in connection with an armed robbery was arrested by police during a swoop by the Met’s Flying Squad in London at the weekend, it has emerged.
It is believed officers from the Met made their move on Saturday after receiving intelligence about the whereabouts of Russell Dale Grant.
The 44-year-old, who is also known as Russell McVicar, has since been charged with armed robbery and he appeared before Knowsley Magistrates’ Court this morning.
The charge relates to a robbery at Tesco, Cables Retail Park, Prescot on January 25 2006, in which a cash box was taken from a G4S Security Guard.
It is alleged the guard was threatened with a meat cleaver during the raid.
Police had made a series of media appeals to trace Grant, the son of former master criminal turned journalist John McVicar, in recent years.
He has been remanded in custody until Tuesday, October 20.
