HERE is a first look inside the newly refurbished Gerard Arms, transformed into a light and airy inviting space.

The pub, on Dentons Green Lane, was purchased by Aidan and Nicola Gill, the former landlord and landlady of The Millhouse pub in Sutton.

They have transformed the venue since taking it over in September.

Tonight is the official launch date for the public, but lucky locals and the Star were invited yesterday for a first look.

Aidan, landlord at The Gerard, says he was "made up" to be able to take over the pub that has been his local for many years.

He said: "I grew up with this pub it's my local and when it came up as an opportunity we couldn't say no to it.

"It's a great space, with great potential. We needed to give it a facelift and move away from the dark decor and make it inviting.

"My favourite space is the snug, but we've invested a lot. The new floors look great, the sports area has a new pool table and darts board and projector and we've got the bar outside as well.

"There's been a lot of thoughts about the outside toilets, but they will only be made open in the warm weather to take the pressure off the indoor bathrooms when the beer garden is full; it is using a garage space and we hope everyone will be happy with them.

"We've brightened up everything, the function rooms upstairs, the bars, the snug, decor, everything we discussed we wanted with the designer being bright and airy and warm and inviting has all come together and we are really happy with it."

As well as decor they've also extended both the ladies and mens bathrooms, adding a further cubicle in each, with plans in the future to do further work on the outside space to add a play area.

The menu has also been changed with offers for senior menus as well as lighter bites added.

The Gerard Arms is open now.
