A DISQUALIFIED driver who took a car and crashed it while in excess of the drink driving limit is due in court.

Paula McHugh, 56, of Springfield in Rainford, was due before Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, for sentencing following a series of offences committed on February 1 this year.

She took a Mercedes C220 Sport without the owner’s consent and caused damage to the vehicle in a crash before it was recovered.

McHugh was already disqualified from driving at the time of the incident and was found to be over the legal alcohol limit.

She had 257 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine in her system, which is nearly two and a half times the legal limit.

She pleaded guilty to all charges on August 25, and the case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

McHugh also failed to stop at the scene of the collision, on Bushey Lane, Rainford, which involved a Ford Transit van, and was driving without valid insurance.

She admitted aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, drink-driving, failing to stop after a road accident, and driving without insurance.

The 56-year-old is to be sentenced by the court today.
