Man charged following Ruskin Drive dog attack in St Helens

As the Star reported earlier this year, a pet dog was killed at Ruskin Drive Sports Village, in Dentons Green, on Easter Monday evening, April 6.

The dog, called Sox, was being taken for a walk around the St Helens Council-managed sports site, when it was reportedly attacked by another dog, believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, at around 7pm.

Sox later died.

Police have been investigating, with officers arresting a 57-year-old man after the incident, who was bailed pending further inquiries.

A suspect has since been charged in connection with the incident.

Paul Hewitt, of Dentons Green Lane, Dentons Green, has been charged with being the owner or person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control.

Hewitt has also been charged with failing to comply with a Dog Control Order.

The 57-year-old is due to appear before Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court for a first hearing today, Friday, August 21.
