A planning application has been withdrawn for the siting of 11 self-storage containers in St Helens.

The proposal, submitted to St Helens Borough Council, related to land at The Portland Centre on Sutton Road and included plans for boundary fencing alongside the containers.

The application was withdrawn following recent correspondence between the applicant and the council.

The withdrawn scheme was intended to replace a lapsed planning approval for 16 storage containers, which had been granted under a previous application (P/2021/0401/FUL).

The planning statement said: "This statement has been prepared for and on behalf of our client to support the planning application submitted seeking approval for 11 number storage containers in lieu of the lapsed planning approval granted for 16 number storage containers along with palisade fencing."

The containers were to be used for domestic storage under use class B8, with associated parking.

The statement also noted that works had already commenced on site under the previous approval, but uncertainty remained about whether a new application was required due to the reduced number of units.

The site is located within an industrial area of St Helens and consists of permeable hardstanding.

The proposed works would have remained outside the proximity of Network Rail land and would not have encroached on their property.

No reason for the withdrawal has been given, but the applicant has been advised to consult with the case officer before submitting any revised plans.
