HOMES were left without electricity after a power cut hit part of the town.
The outage was reported just after 6am on Monday, June 22 and has affected 54 properties in the east of Newton-Le-Willows.
Electricity North West said the cause was an unexpected incident with the underground cable.
In a statement online, they said: "We are sorry you are experiencing a power cut. We are currently investigating the issue."
Engineers have been on site to repair the cable.
Power was expected to be restored by 6.15pm on the same day, though the company noted that underground repairs can sometimes take longer.
Affected postcodes included WA12 0DX and WA12 0DY.
