COMMUNITY groups across the UK are being encouraged to apply for new funding.

The Co-op's Local Community Fund is offering a share of £3.5 million to support projects that improve access to food, boost mental wellbeing, create opportunities for young people, and promote community cohesion.

Since launching in 2016, the fund has supported 40,000 causes across the UK, helping communities thrive through targeted, locally driven projects.

David Luckin, Head of Social Value and Community Engagement, Co-op, said: "Beginning the search for new local causes to take part in a fresh round of funding is always exciting, our members have told us that they want Co-op to focus on the real issues affecting people’s lives.

"Co-operation and people working together can be very powerful, and our funding enables local causes to deliver projects that focus on issues that matter most locally.

"We know that things can be increasingly challenging for communities and through this funding we can help to make a real difference – helping people and communities thrive."

The fund has already supported tens of thousands of initiatives, thanks to the contributions of Co-op members.

The current funding round is open until June 24, 2026.

Co-op members can view local causes and choose a community project close to their own heart via the Co-op membership app.

The Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with a history spanning more than 180 years.

Owned by more than seven million members, the organisation is committed to creating value for both its members and the communities it serves.

Community groups interested in applying for the Local Community Fund can find more information and submit applications at coop.co.uk/causes.

Eligible groups can benefit from funding to support projects that matter most to local people.
