A COMMUNITY litter pick has helped brighten up public green spaces.

Volunteers from Barratt Homes teamed up with Haydock Football Club for a clean-up at King George V Playing Fields in Haydock, which also extended to Haydock Cricket Club.

The event, organised through the Barratt Redrow Foundation in partnership with CleanupUK, was part of a wider effort to encourage Barratt’s regional teams to improve the areas where they live and work.

Stuart Corrigan, a member of Haydock Football Club, said: "On behalf of the club and the wider community, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Barratt Homes for organising the recent litter pick at King George V Playing Fields and the adjacent Haydock Cricket Club.

"This small act of kindness was greatly appreciated, and the club would like to thank the housebuilder’s volunteers who, with the help of Haydock FC officials, made a big difference to the local park in collecting a large amount of litter on the day.

"We look forward to working with Barratt Homes on any future opportunities within the area."

The clean-up took place near Barratt’s upcoming development at Florida Farm.

Rhys Nicholson, managing director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: "Litter picking activities such as this one in Haydock are a brilliant initiative that empowers our team members to actively contribute to creating a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment for everyone.

"I’m proud of every team member who took the time to get involved and support this important cause.

"Their efforts reflect our ongoing dedication as a company to environmental responsibility."

The Barratt Redrow Cleanup aims to protect local wildlife from the harmful effects of litter and create welcoming and safer spaces for the communities that Barratt Homes build in.

According to a 2025 Keep Britain Tidy report, less than 10 per cent of places in England are considered litter-free.

More than 61 per cent of people said they believe the litter situation has worsened in recent years, and seven out of 10 now notice litter in their neighbourhoods daily.
