POWER has been switched off at some properties in St Helens this afternoon (Tuesday) to enable emergency repairs to an underground cable.

Scottish Power says electricity supplies have been turned off at homes in postcodes around the Sutton and Sutton Leach area.

Power is expected to be restored by 4pm.

Scottish Power have asked affected residents to switch off and unplug all electrical appliances, including their boiler, while the repairs take place.

In a statement online, Scottish Power said: "We have to turn the power off in the WA9 postcode area of St Helens at 12:30 so our engineers can safely carry out emergency repairs to an underground cable fault. We aim to restore power by 31/03/2026, 16:00.

"To protect your equipment, please switch off and unplug all electrical appliances, including your boiler.

"We will update this message if the information changes. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience"
