A MAN charged with rape and ABH after police were called over an alleged incident has made a first court appearance.
Police confirmed they had charged a suspect in connection with a reported incident in St Helens on Friday evening, September 26.
Lewis Smith, of Canberra Avenue, Thatto Heath, was charged with rape and assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH).
Smith, 33, was remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on Monday, September 29.

During the hearing, the case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court, where the defendant is scheduled to enter his pleas to the charges next month.
Smith, 33, was remanded into custody.
Smith is next due to appear at the Crown Court on Monday, October 27 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
