YOUTH organisations in St Helens have been given extra time to apply for funding to improve buildings and facilities.

The extended deadline applies to the Better Youth Spaces Fund, which supports small-scale capital projects such as refurbishments and equipment upgrades.

The fund is open to not-for-profit youth organisations located in 42 priority areas across England, identified by government using the Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index (IDACI) at the upper-tier local authority level.

There is now an additional month to apply, with the new deadline set for Sunday, September 21.

Rob Benfield, director of investments at Social Investment Business, said: "We're pleased to be able to extend this opportunity for youth organisations following the summer holidays and deliver grant funding that will enable better spaces for local young people across England.

"The new deadlines will allow more organisations to access the funding and ensure groups have additional time to refurbish their spaces."

Organisations will also have until the end of February 2026 to complete refurbishment work and provide evidence of expenditure.

A total of £30.5 million is available through the fund, which was announced by the Prime Minister on August 6 and is administered by Social Investment Business.

Grants between £5,000 and £100,000 are available for eligible capital projects.

These could include upgrades to buildings, purchase of essential equipment, or small-scale refurbishments.

The fund remains open for applications until midnight on September 21, but may close earlier if oversubscribed.

Organisations are encouraged to check their eligibility using the Better Youth Spaces postcode finder before applying.

Further information and application details are available through the Social Investment Business website.
