A MAN was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article after police spoke to a motorist.

Officers on patrol spotted a car on Hamblett Crescent, in Haresfinch, on Sunday night, August 25, shortly before midnight.

They arrested a suspect after they stopped to speak to the driver.

A 45-year-old St Helens man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He was also arrested on suspicion of using threatening, abusive or insulting words and of obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of duty.

The man has been bailed pending further inquiries.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "Officers on patrol saw a car on Hamblett Crescent at around 11.50pm on Sunday and stopped to speak to the driver.

"A 45-year-old St Helens man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place, using threatening/abusive/insulting words and obstructing/resisting a constable in the execution of duty.

"He has been released on bail pending further inquiries."
