WITH 60,000 nominations for local pubs, cafés, bistros and brasseries, The Good Food Guide’s judges had a difficult task on their hands – create a list of the top 100 restaurants across the UK.
Undercover inspectors toured the country to ensure this year’s list is made up of the best venues – places that are home to extraordinary local creativity and talent, personal hospitality and genuine community spirit, while being affordable too.
Cibus in Levenshulme was named the best local restaurant in the north west.
Created by Giorgio Fontana and Marco Bracchitta, this Italian trattoria boasts exceptional regional dishes with top-class Italian ingredients and products sourced from local suppliers.
From crispy sourdough pizzas and interesting pasta dishes, there’s something to suit all tastebuds.
Eateries in St Helens didn’t make it into the 100 Best Local Restaurants 2024, despite receiving nominations from loyal customers, but a dozen north west places charted and they’re all just a short drive away in Manchester, Liverpool and Chester as well as Blackpool, Stockport and Blackpool.
Which St Helens restaurant do you think should have made the top 100? Which is your favourite?
Elizabeth Carter, co-editor of The Good Food Guide with Chloe Hamilton, said: “Eating out locally has never been so diverse, so enjoyable, so satisfying.
“Let’s make sure it stays that way.”
The north west restaurants that made it into this year’s top 100 are:
- Cibus, Levenshulme
- Lily’s Vegetarian Indian Cuisine, Ashton-under-Lyne
- Bombay to Mumbai, Stockport

- Another Hand, Manchester
- The Sparrows, Manchester
