FIRE crews rushed to put out a blaze next to a boarded-up pub on Friday night.

At around 9pm on Friday, June 7, residents noticed flames and smoke rising around the Ship Inn pub, on Blackbrook Road.

Fire crews arrived within minutes and made the scene safe, as there were concerns that the blaze could have spread to the neighbouring pub.

A popular pub for decades, the Ship closed its doors for the final time in October 2023, although it has been confirmed that the building is currently "under offer".
