COUNCILLORS approved plans for a single-storey side extension to a property in Newton-le-Willows.
The application came before St Helens Council’s planning committee at its town hall meeting on Tuesday, May 21.
The reason the application went before the committee is because the applicant is an elected member of the council.
According to a report to the committee, the property, on Queens Drive, is a fully rendered semi-detached dwelling located in a primarily residential area, and the property is set back from the road with driveway and garden to the front and side with curtilage parking.
It also stated that there is an existing single storey extension to the rear that is also rendered, while the site is bordered by similar residential dwellings on either side and the cricket pitch of Newton-le-Willows Sports Club to the rear.

The report added: “The principle of development is acceptable as the proposal would be a relatively modest single storey side extension that would respect the scale, design, and character of the original dwelling, and complies with both national and local policies and guidance.”
Councillors unanimously approved the application.
