FIREFIGHTERS rushed to make the scene of a serious crash safe on Friday night.

As reported by the Star, a serious crash was reported along Helena Road on Friday, May 3.

Merseyside Police confirmed that a BMW X4 vehicle had collided with parked cars and a Ford Focus taxi around the the junction with Reginald Road at around 10.30pm.

Two fire engines and the search and rescue team from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) were also deployed to ensure the scene was safe.

Upon arrival, fire crews reported witnessing one car on its roof, with the driver already out of the vehicle and placed into police custody.

The driver and two passengers of the taxi were also out of the vehicle before fire crews arrived, and were being assessed by paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service.

Fire crews have confirmed that a total of six parked cars were damaged in the incident, in addition to the two vehicles involved in the collision.

Firefighters spent around 90 minutes making the crash scene safe, while St Helens Council was requested to attend to isolate the electrics of a lamppost that was struck by a vehicle.

Although the four people involved were taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries and precautionary checks, no serious injuries were reported.

Merseyside Police has since arrested a 27-year-old man from St Helens on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed alcohol limit, and driving whilst unfit through drink.

A spokesperson for MFRS said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident on Helena Road, Bold, on the evening of Friday, May 3.

"Crews were alerted at 22.50 and on scene at 22.56, with two fire engines and the search and rescue team attending.

"This was a road traffic collision involving two cars. Vehicle one was on its roof, with the occupant out of the vehicle prior to fire service arrival and placed into police custody.

"Vehicle two was on all four wheels, with three occupants out of the vehicle prior to fire service arrival and were assessed by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

"A total of six parked cars were damaged. St Helens Council was requested to attend this incident in order to isolate the electrics to a lamppost that had been struck by the vehicle.

"All persons involved were conscious and breathing and conveyed to hospital for precautionary checks.

"Fire Service personnel made all vehicles and the scene safe before handing over to Merseyside Police.

"Crews left the scene at 00.37 on the morning of Saturday, May 4."
